my favorite quote

"God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him."

This is my favorite quote right now. I love it, because it's true. We are watching John Piper's "desiring God" DVD series before church, and he said this again today. Watch this video.

Show and Tell Friday

Show and Tell

Today I would like to show you a lovely teacup 'o mine...

I found this at a thrift shop. I love teacups, and decided to start a collection of them! This is my first one. I love the pink roses on the cream. It's not perfect, but has lots of charm. *smiles*
Thank you for letting me share. Have a lovely Friday!

Today I...

Ate breakfast; chocolate chip muffins (thank you Mom, they were good!) and soakmeal (made by me. not the best. maybe I should use a recipe next time?) with orange juice. Milked the goat and watered the berry patch. Tidied the living room. Then Mom read aloud "The Story Girl" to us, while I knitted and sipped iced coffee. After that, I tidied the kitchen, while Mom and Jake made lunch. After lunch I cleaned up the dishes, and cleaned the kitchen. I checked my blog, and a sewing forum. Then I cleaned out a cabinet. The one we keep medicine in. I threw out tons of stuff. Throwing things out and bagging up stuff to donate are easy for me. I like to do it. I enjoy organizing stuff, usually. I helped Mom a little in making laundry soap, took pictures, and tidied some more. Dad got home from work, I helped Mom put a picture on a post, and I put some pictures on her sidebar. A little more kitchen tiding, making tea, then cleaning-out-and-organizing of the silverware drawer. I put butternut squash in the oven, and now am here typing, while sipping on peppermint iced tea. Timer's going off, got to go check the squash... It's not quite done. We will eat dinner and study in Genesis, then read in "The Swiss Family Robinson." Have a good evening!

The first day of Autumn, and a blog Award!

Today is the first day of Autumn! I am so excited. I love this time of year. Unfortunately, I am sick (so is Sam, Mom, Jake, and Joe). Runny noses, sore throats, aching heads. Ugh. But I still plan to make some fall treats today. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip muffins, anyone?

I haven't been very smiley yesterday or today, due to being sick, but Momma Bug, you made my day! She gave me the Brillante Weblog award. Thank you Momma Bug! I am going to award it to some of my favorite blogs, which I think are brillante, and always make me smile!

To my Mother, who's blog is calm and peaceful.

To Andi, who's blog is happy and cheerful.

For Christina. I love to read your blog!

To Rachel, who's blog is just like her!

To Laurie. Your blog is thought provoking and wonderful.

To Amy (who I don't know in person). Your blog is a breath of fresh air.

I wish I could give the award to all the blogs which make me smile! But that would take far to long...

Thrifting Finds

Today we (my whole family) went to town. We stopped at a few yard sales, then headed to the used baby clothes shop to get Sam some winter clothes. He just keeps growing! Anyways; after the baby shop we ate lunch at Chipotle. Yum! I hadn't been there in forever (we try to not eat out). After that we exchanged Jake's newest knife, then went to two thrift stores on the way home. I found quite a few things, some to put in my hope chest (which I will post about soon). Here's what I bought.

Six Corelle saucers, and six matching cups. I think these are so cute! They will go in my hope chest.

These are two vintage patterns. I think I will make several of these dresses and sell them on Etsy.

More vintage patterns. I was excited to find a boy's pattern, because to me they seem harder to find. I got all of the above patterns for 80 cents!

A Pyrex refrigerator dish [$5] and a cute (vintage?) hankie [10cents].

A 70's pattern [20cents]. I am not a fan of the 70's fashions, but I think this skirt will look cute.

Vintage plate and a metal embroidery hoop.

I have lurkers!

Yea, people really do read my blog! I told my friend Abby about my blog. I was not sure if she checked it very often. But it turns out she does! Yay, thanks Abby. And then my other friend, Abbie (yes, I know, I know a lot of Abb[y][ie][i]'s), also reads my blog. This info was given me via my friend Emmy. Okay, I need to stop rambling! So,

Dinner[s]

On Monday I made this for dinner. It was really good. I didn't put cilantro in it, but I did add a couple spoonfuls of diced green chilies, the kind in a can. Also, I used black beans, a regular sized can. And I didn't put peas in it, I just did all corn.

Then on Tuesday I made this noodles with Italian Sausage and Peppers in sauce. Andi made it on Sunday night, and we all loved it. So we decided to make it at home. She makes awesome food on Sundays. That sounded weird. I am sure she make awesome food on other days too. First you cook the sausage and bell peppers, and then add sauce (either homemade or canned) and simmer. Then cook some pasta and put it in your bowl, and pour sauce over it. Yummy, and super easy! Just make as little or as much as you need.

Cook the sausage and peppers.

Add your sauce.

Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of the pasta before we ate it.

New Books!

I love books. Many of you know that, and many of you love books too. We received our Vision Forum package today! Jake bought a sword, and Mom bought some books for this school year. Two that we got are Famous Women of the Reformed Church, and Stories of the Covenanters in Scotland. They were both on my book wish list, but now I can check them off! Flipping through Famous Women, I saw the website where it was originally from. This site has so many good books! With authors like Calvin, MacArthur, Edwards, White, and many more. I kept going "Hey Mom! They have such-and-such book!" or "Mom, James White has a book called Pulpit Crimes! I want to read that." Books. You can't have enough.

A new kid!

Today one of our Nigerian Dwarf does kidded. She had one solid black buckling with blues eyes. He is so cute! He doesn't have a name yet, any suggestions? Here are some pictures of him.

I found this on Life in a Shoe.

Another Giveaway

So, Miss Jocelyn is giving away... a book! This book, which I have been wanting to read. Go here to enter for yourself. I want to read the Kingdom Series, and the newest book in the companion series looks great!

John Piper video

Andi, I hope you don't mind me putting this on here. I don't want the reputation of being a copy-cat. It's just so good, I have to post it.

Fall Harvest

An almost ready pumpkin.

A not quite ready pumpkin.

A pumpkin plant sprouted earlier this year, next to our front porch. We were looking forward to having pumpkins for fall decoration. Alas, as they started, and then stopped growing, we realized that they were little pumpkins! How cute!

Sunday was great

Our church is very small, which is just the way I like it. Yesterday we had church at one of the family's houses, since the building where we usually meet was unavailable.
The weather was so beautiful; we sat outside, enjoying the nice breeze and cool shade. What do you think I saw when I opened my bulletin? Two of the song's we were going to sing were In Christ Alone and Be Thou My Vision! At first I thought Andi or Chrissie had set that up. But they didn't. :)
