whir, whir, whir

That's the sound my sewing machine makes when it's in use. At least that is the nearest I can get to describing it. I have been sewing all day, when I wasn't sitting in the living room. We had our very first fire today! It is great. Albeit warm. Very warm.
Our costumes are all ready. We need to leave soon, so I better get ready. :-) I will post pictures of our costumes tomorrow, or Sunday. Happy Reformation Day!

the week's happenings

Monday: sleep deprived from staying up late on Sunday night. But hey, we just love to fellowship with y'all. Sleep deprivation is totally worth it. At least I think so.

Tuesday: the wood stove was supposed to be put in, but the parts hadn't arrived.

Wednesday: I finished my Arwen dress. Pictures to come...

Today: the wood stove was installed. Yay! Now for a fire tomorrow morning. Double yay! I went to choir, and Emmy did another braid. Thanks! Then Mom picked me up, and we went to JoAnn's. That is a dangerous place. Not only do you splurge when you see the Italian wool/cotton yarn, the cotton yarn, the baby yarn, and the Butterick patterns, all on sale, but you get yelled at by the old lady in the phone booth, um, I mean bathroom. And now I am sitting here typing away on the laptop, shivering. Shivering because it RAINED!!! For the first time in a long time. And it is cold again, after a rather warm spell. Perhaps Fall is here to stay? When will the roses on my rose bush wither, and not show their faces again till spring? When will it be Winter? Soon. Christmas is only 56 days away! Oh my! It seems as if yesterday it were January. As I get older, time flies faster, and faster... and I am not that old. :-) I should sign off. Good night!

New Boots for Sam

My "das!" That is what Sam calls shoes.

The sprinkler got me!

Well, I should be off. We are having Reformation Day service/potluck at church today. And I need to go milk the goat, get ready, and make sure my Pumpkin Bars are ready too! :-)

Week In Feminine Dress day 7

Today I am tidying up the house a bit, and working outside. I chose to wear a tan thrifted skirt, which has some stians on it, and a blue polka dot shirt from Target.

A close up of the shirt.

Barn in the Morning

Week in Feminine Dress day 6

Today I am wearing my favorite jeans and a pink thrifted Gap long-sleeve tee. Even though I'm not wearing a skirt, I still feel feminine. I think it is most important to dress modestly. You don't have to wear just skirts and/or dresses to be modest. Many girls and women wear pants, and are still modest.

BTW, sorry for the odd expression on my face, and the poof of hair on the left. :-)

Week In Feminine Dress day's 4&5

Over at the Sensibility forum, some of the ladies are doing week in feminine dress. I am sort of hopping on half-way through, but nobody cares, right? The picture's are backwards. Sorry about that. So, go down to the bottom picture, and read up from there.

At choir this afternoon my dear friend Emmy did my hair in a fancy braid. Thanks Em!

Today I wore another denim skirt, and a grey Gap tee-shirt.

Here's a close-up of the shirt.

Yesterday I wore a long denim (thrifted) skirt, and a white button-up shirt sprinkled with pink posies. And my cowgirl boots when we went to dinner with my grandparents.

Thank you Andi!

When I haven't any time to blog, I post a photo or two, or three. Bear with me, if this starts happening sometimes.

Yesterday we had a wonderful, laughter-filled day, chalk full 'o fellowship with others of "the race that knows Joseph" (~L. M. Montgomery). Andi gave up her day to come teach me how to use a pattern, and help me make my "Arwen" dress. (I will blog about it when it's finished.) Andi, you are such a blessings! Thank you so much. I owe ya.

Well, I should go eat my Chocolate Peanut Butter Fresh Banana Milkshake. Mmmm. We haven't had Big Al's in so long. Good Night!

Fabric

We went to JoAnn's to see what sort of deals they had going for Columbus Day. We stood in line for way too long. :-)

From the top down:

Cute Cupcake fabric (no purpose, yet.)

Yellow/Blue/Pink/Green Floral, for a curtain for the bathroom.

Cute Knit fabric for a shirt for Mom.

Cream/Brown Floral, which we bought just because we love it. :-)

Black knit, for a cloak for Jake.

a poem

October gave a party; The leaves by hundreds came-
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples, And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet, And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing, Professor Wind the band.

The Chestnuts came in yellow, The Oaks in crimson dressed;
The lovely Misses Maple In scarlet looked their best;
All balanced to their partners, And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow New fallen from the sky.

Then, in the rustic hollow, At hide-and-seek they played,
The party closed at sundown, And everybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder; They flew along the ground;
And then the party ended In jolly "hands around."

Tuesday Fun

My Dad has this whole week off, so we have been working around the farm. Yesterday the twins and I walked down the road to our great aunt's house, to find Jake, who had walked down there for something. He was just leaving, but the twins decided to jump off the bridge (don't be alarmed, it's not really a bridge. More like a very small over pass thing, dose that make sense?). Jake and I decided to try it, too. Once was enough for him. It hurt his back. But I was game to do it some more. Here are a few pictures for your enjoyment. :) (keep in mind we are only jumping about 6 1/2 feet down. It is not far at all.)

Twin #1. He is the one who started it. "Woo hoo!!!!!"

Twin #2. He was slow to actually jump, but when he did, he enjoyed it.

Me. I felt it would be more fun if I put my hands in the air. It sort of looks like I'm just floating down.

I'm not sure what Jake is thinking in this picture. How about "Oh no, oh no. What was I thinkiiinnnggg?!"

This is by far my favorite. Twin #1 is hilarious.

I've been tagged...

By Mia! I haven't ever done a meme, but I'll give it a shot. Here are the Rules:

*Link to the person who tagged you.

*Post the rules on your blog.

*Write six random things about yourself.

*'Tag' six-or-so other people at the bottom of your post

*And leave comments on their blogs letting them know they've been tagged.

*Let the person who tagged you know when you've written the post.

1. I love photography. I especially like to take sky pictures.

2. I have 4 brothers and 0 sisters. People always say "Do you like being the only girl?" or "Do you wish you had a sister?" To answer those questions, yes I like being the only girl, and I don't care that I don't have a sister. God is in control. If I need a sister, He will give me one! This summer He gave me five girlies to be "big sister" to. :) Moriah, Faith, Abi, Lily and Hope.

3. My home is surrounded with almond orchards. They are all over this town!

4. I hate poisonous spiders, bugs, snakes, and sea animals.

5. My favorite soda is either Dr. Pepper or Coke w/a lemon wedge.

6. When I was little I fell onto (or ran into, I forget) the corner of a coffee table. I still have a thin white scar near my mouth. The dentist always ask's what it is!

I tag Moriah, Momma Bug, Emma, and Amber.

Chocolate Cake, High Heels, and Cleaning

No, I was not eating cake while cleaning and wearing high heels. But I could. :) This week has been busy. We are preparing to have a house guest and homeschooling meetings today and tomorrow.

Last week I made This Yummy Sour Cream Chocolate Cake with Fudgy Frosting. As if the cake part was. not. enough. Seriously, it was awesome. Then two weeks ago Mom and I went to Target, and I bought a pair of cute black heels. *squeal* Sorry, no picture. The Internet is being fussy.
What a beautiful morning! The sky is just starting to turn a lovely lavender blue peach color. I just love sunrises! A chilly breeze is winding enchantingly through the open windows. The birds are beginning to sing their songs, unlike the roosters who have been at it for hours! May God bless your weekend.
