Works For Me Wednesday

Batteries are expensive. In our family we are always using batteries. The boy's use them for everything from flashlights to inventions.

So instead of buying AA's all the time, my parents bought an Energizer 15 minute charger. The charger fits both AAA and AA, four at a time. And, it's great for when you need batteries fast! All you need is the charger, and 4 or so rechargeable batteries, depending on how many you use at a time. I use them for my camera, and they work great! So invest in one of these today. It's worth it! And it Works for Me. Oh, and it says I posted this on Tuesday, but I really posted it today (Wednesday).

Veteran's Day

Ow!

Joe and I had orthodontist appointments this afternoon. Now my mouth hurts bad. After the first 6 months, I wouldn't have any pain after appointments. But if they really tighten them up, then I do. Today was one of those times. We brought pizza home, and now I am eating some. Yum! Nothing like pizza, Pepsi, and blogging, right?
Sorry I haven't been around much. One of these day's I will sit down and blog. :-) For now, here are some links.

Apple Pie

Yesterday morning I was cleaning the kitchen and living room, and getting the twins to clean the bathroom, and watching Sam (Mom and Jake had an appointment). Then I got the craving for apple pie. So, I whipped up some pie crust in our handy dandy food processor, had the twins go pick some apples, and made Pie! It was so good. We ate it for dessert last night, and Jake, Joe, and I had it for breakfast this morning. I am not a crust person, but this recipe was so good. It was sweet, not at all like store bought. It tasted almost like cookie dough. I had to stop eating it, or else there wouldn't have been enough for the top crust! :-) I will post the recipe later. Right now I better get back to my sewing!

Damsels in... the sewing room

raindrops on wire

Today has been a cozy indoor kind of day. I did algebra, worked on Mom's fingerless gloves, worked on some other knitting, read in Famous Women of the Reformed Church, made lunch, washed some fabric, etc. Have a lovely day!

More Reformation Day Photo's

Sam was a cow. His costume was a thrift store find. And to finish it off, we got him a little cow bell. He was so cute!
Hopie was Shirley Temple. How CUTE!

Check out those curls!!!

It is very hard to get 10 children to all smile at the same time. From left to right: Elizabeth from Pirates, Arwen from Lord of the Rings, a pirate, Shirley Temple, Cowboy Joe, Sam the cow, Lily the Angel, Zorro, Faith the Lady, and Moriah the nurse. Aren't we a cute red-eyed bunch? *smiles*

My Arwen Dress

For Halloween (Reformation Day) I was Arwen, from LOTR. Andi came over and helped me make the dress (thanks again!!!), and I did the silver sleeves and trim, and the hem on my own. Emmy made my crown. Isn't it marvelous?! Thank you bunches Emmy dear! We had a great time last night. I will post more pictures soon.

Joe (twin #1) and I. He was a cowboy. He always dresses like that though. :-)

Here's the dress. I used McCall's 4491, view D. Andi and I tried it with the gussets, but they sort of pooched out. So she took them out, and it looked better. My arm movement is limited without them, but I don't care. I will post better pictures when the rain stops and I can take some. Lol.

whir, whir, whir

That's the sound my sewing machine makes when it's in use. At least that is the nearest I can get to describing it. I have been sewing all day, when I wasn't sitting in the living room. We had our very first fire today! It is great. Albeit warm. Very warm.
Our costumes are all ready. We need to leave soon, so I better get ready. :-) I will post pictures of our costumes tomorrow, or Sunday. Happy Reformation Day!

the week's happenings

Monday: sleep deprived from staying up late on Sunday night. But hey, we just love to fellowship with y'all. Sleep deprivation is totally worth it. At least I think so.

Tuesday: the wood stove was supposed to be put in, but the parts hadn't arrived.

Wednesday: I finished my Arwen dress. Pictures to come...

Today: the wood stove was installed. Yay! Now for a fire tomorrow morning. Double yay! I went to choir, and Emmy did another braid. Thanks! Then Mom picked me up, and we went to JoAnn's. That is a dangerous place. Not only do you splurge when you see the Italian wool/cotton yarn, the cotton yarn, the baby yarn, and the Butterick patterns, all on sale, but you get yelled at by the old lady in the phone booth, um, I mean bathroom. And now I am sitting here typing away on the laptop, shivering. Shivering because it RAINED!!! For the first time in a long time. And it is cold again, after a rather warm spell. Perhaps Fall is here to stay? When will the roses on my rose bush wither, and not show their faces again till spring? When will it be Winter? Soon. Christmas is only 56 days away! Oh my! It seems as if yesterday it were January. As I get older, time flies faster, and faster... and I am not that old. :-) I should sign off. Good night!

New Boots for Sam

My "das!" That is what Sam calls shoes.

The sprinkler got me!

Well, I should be off. We are having Reformation Day service/potluck at church today. And I need to go milk the goat, get ready, and make sure my Pumpkin Bars are ready too! :-)

Week In Feminine Dress day 7

Today I am tidying up the house a bit, and working outside. I chose to wear a tan thrifted skirt, which has some stians on it, and a blue polka dot shirt from Target.

A close up of the shirt.
